Emilia Zankina, Ph.D.
Executive Director

Emilia Zankina is the Dean of Temple University Rome, one of the University’s flagship international campuses and one of the largest and longest-standing study abroad programs in Italy. Dean Zankina has had over a decade of experience in international education both in the United States and Europe before arriving in Rome.

In the past, she has served as Provost of the American University in Bulgaria, Associate Director of the Center for Russian and East European Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, and Managing Editor of the high-ranked academic journal East European Politics and Societies.
Dr. Zankina holds a Ph.D. in International Affairs and a Certificate in Advanced East European Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and publishes on topics such as democratization and elite transformation, populism, civil service reform, and gender political representation.
As Executive Director of Temple University Rome S.r.l., Dr. Zankina oversees all aspects of the company’s activities, including finances, development of new programming, marketing, and the hiring of staff.

In Fall 2024 Temple Rome opened its doors to its centrally-located new campus at Via di San Sebastianello 16, adjacent to Piazza di Spagna—one of the most notable landmarks in the Eternal City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
